Area artists invited to participate in New Haven Symphony Orchestra's 115th anniversary celebration
AThe NHSO is Tuning Up for the 115th Anniversary by inviting artists and organizations to participate in a juried art competition in three categories: design, decorate, and deconstruct. Artists may design an artistic representation of a violin out of any materials they choose; decorate a provided violin in any manner or style; or deconstruct a provided violin and rearrange it in any way, shape, or form. The violins will be displayed in shop windows, business lobbies, and public buildings throughout the downtown New Haven area in March of 2007, and on April 21, 2007, the violins will be auctioned both live and online to raise money for the NHSO. Proposals for the competition are due December 2. In addition to having their work seen by numerous tourists and members of the New Haven community, artists will be competing for a $1000 prize in each of the three categories, and winning artists will be listed in the New Haven Register and on the NHSO website. For more information, or to receive an application package for the competition, call the New Haven Symphony at 865-0831 x21.
